Nick Won His First Jiu-Jitsu Match and Tournament
Today Nick and Andy went to Big John's to compete in the Big John McCarthy Winter Classic. The turn out was low most likely due to the Thanksgiving holiday, but Nick was able to compete.
Andy weighed in at 140 pounds and there weren't any other kids his age at this weight. There usually aren't because he's as big as an ox :) He could have competed in the 14-16 year old division, but he's only eleven and that's too much of a gap.
Nick pretty much had to be coaxed onto the mat by his coach, and after getting to the mat, he dominated his weight class (one 6 year old and one 7 year old). He won his first match 17-0 and tried really hard for the arm bar. He also has a good Judo throw. The second match he won 23-0. Take a look at the matches (turn up the volume!!).

Andy and Nick were in a jiu-jitsu tournament in Long Beach last Sunday. They both did awesome - each got 4th place in their divisions. Congratulations to our friend Ashlin who got 1st place in the yellow belt division! And thanks to Coach Neal for his support! Coming soon...video of the boys' matches (as soon as mom figures it out).
